Our work

Protected Largest U.S. Tax Deduction

Problem:

In 2017, Congress proposed eliminating the state and local (SALT) tax deduction, which is one of the most widely claimed deductions. It allows taxpayers to deduct the state and local taxes they have already paid on their wages, avoids double taxation and supports local investments in schools, public safety and more.

Solution:

We created and managed a nationwide coalition to protect SALT – Americans Against Double Taxation. We leaned on data to narrowly target social media ads at people most likely to be negatively impacted by the elimination of SALT and mobilized them to oppose the bill and contact Congress. In the end, Americans Against Double Taxation was successful in fighting off the total elimination of SALT and preserved a $10,000 annual deduction for millions of taxpayers.

Digital Advocacy in Airline Industry

Problem:

The airline industry faced a jet fuel tax increase in a conservative western state that would drastically increase the cost of flights, reduce accessibility to the region and threaten the local economy.

Solution:

A multi-faceted digital advocacy campaign helped shine a spotlight on the real-life impacts of the tax increase, especially for local people and businesses. By mobilizing voters in the region and targeting specific elected officials on Twitter and at their local offices, we convinced policymakers to abandon the tax increase and preserve affordable flights.

Reputation Protecton From Government Investigation

Problem:

A leading financial services provider faced a wideranging federal government fraud investigation that could have resulted in high profile litigation and significant damage to the Company’s reputation and trust with its consumer.

Solution:

The Company decided to settle rather than litigate. Working with internal and external counsel and company leaders, we designed and executed a comprehensive communications plan to announce the settlement, respond to key questions, inform all priority stakeholders, balance the widespread media coverage and largely limit it to one news cycle. The program enabled the Company to move forward with minimal damage to its reputation and trusted consumer relationships. 

Secured Medicare Coverage​

Problem:

An innovative and popular insulin delivery device was covered by private insurance but not Medicare, requiring diabetes patients either to pay out of pocket or switch systems when they reached age 65.

Solution:

Through a strategically targeted campaign that integrated earned media, digital advocacy tools and lobbying activity, we helped to amplify poignant stories of patients, expertise of providers and support from key Members of Congress and ultimately persuaded the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to cover this essential treatment option.
